A tense Kasturi learns about Chakor's histrionics and asks them to run to the fields. Lakhan brings new clothes for Chakor, a present from the haveli, and advises Kasturi to send her to the haveli the next morning. Chakor tries tying a ribbon on the highest branch of the local holy tree but fails. Feeling uneasy, she tries rubbing off the mohar on her hand. Kasturi and family agonise over their fate till an angry Kasturi vows to burn the clothes from the haveli.
