When a miner, Charley 'Boomer' Baxter, sets off a series of massive mining detonations in West Virginia, it's discovered that a gigantic earthquake will shortly obliterate the North Atlantic. This soon exposes a deep seismic fault that runs the length of the North American continent. Now he must join forces with government seismology expert Dr. Amy Lane to race against time and stop the chasm as it threatens to tear America and the rest of the world in half.
